French Siege De Sebastopol plate
A French antique Creil et Montereau L.M. & Cie white ironstone plate, fully decorated with under glaze black transfer depicting the ‘Overture Du Feu Des Batteries’.
The centre of the plate depicts the opening of the battery fire at the Siege of Sebastopol, with artillery soldiers loading and firing cannons and mortars at the hills in the background.
The rim of the plate is fully decorated with royal and regimental banners, shields, swagging and a fine shark tooth border.
Marked No.6 and part of a larger set depicting events of the Crimean War, the underside is marked with the mid 19thC black L.M. & Cie maker’s transfer for Creil et Montereau, showing the exhibition medal winning years of 1834, 39, 44 & 49.

Condition:
There is a small old surface scrape/fault beneath the word Ouverture, along with some other light wear marks around the inside rim.
There is a fine surface craze star on the underside, along with some other light crazing and age related wear, but no damage. Overall in very nice condition for a plate that is over 150 years old.
